Learning To Flow @ The Wave

Flow State in Action

In the run up to our new day-retreat at The Wave on Saturday 17th Feb - Learning to Flow, we’ll be unpacking this physiological state to give you the info you need to harness it in the right way.

Flow is an optimal form of consciousness where we feel and perform at our best. Athletes call it being in the zone, artists talk about flow, jazz musicians talk about being in the pocket - they are all expressing a sense of ‘effortless effort’.

Flow states can increase creativity by allowing individuals to think more freely and creatively, which can lead to the generation of new ideas and solutions to problems . When in a flow state, an individual can experience a suspension of the inner critic and self-doubt that can inhibit creativity, allowing for a more open and relaxed state of mind.

Flow is associated with subjective well-being, satisfaction with life, and general happiness. In fact, Harvard’s Teresa Amiable discovered that not only are people more creative in flow, they also report being more creative the day after a flow state, suggesting that flow doesn’t just heighten creativity in the moment, it heightens it over the long haul.

To achieve a flow state, one must create the optimal conditions to get to the flow state. This includes avoiding noisy environments and opportunities for interruptions, and focusing on the task at hand. Once in a flow state, the individual experiences a sense of clarity, ecstasy, and a sense of timelessness.

And Resurface is on hand to help you do just this.
